[The way Voyager ended filming with no pomp or fanfare just Kate on the bridge at 2 AM doing re-shoots and then the teamsters rushing in to dismantle the set makes me so sad. Voyager’s cast deserved far better! Makes me glad UPN went under!]
I wanna know more details thats sad
Not sure how the OC (original confessor) heard it, but the version I heard from Kate Mulgrew at a convention was basically that.
Some more detail I recall is that the final shots filmed for Voyager where done really late/early one night, with Kate alone on the bridge set filming some brief snip scenes like one-off lines (“engage” or “red alert” or “do it” with the focus of the camera just on Kate in her chair so no one else was needed.) Everyone else had gone home. She finished up, someone called “that’s a wrap” and Kate stood up from her chair (the chair) as a bunch of construction types rushed forward and began to instantly dismantle the set. She stood there stunned and watched as someone went to work unbolting her command chair. Bob Picardo hadn’t gone home like everyone else, and had actually been watching from the briefing room door. He walked up to Kate, put his arm around her shoulder, and said “C’mon kiddo. Lets go get a drink.”
And that is how “Star Trek: Voyager” ended it’s 7 year run. Not with a celebration, not with fanfare, not with applause or even tears. No ceremony, no “thanks” from the studio bosses or producers like Berman. With Kate, alone at 2 am, filming quick one-off line re-shoots before they rushed to tear the set down to make space for the new sets for “Enterprise”…
Voyager will always be my favorite Star Trek series.
